Beginners Quilting.  


Level: Patchwork quilting for beginners with the basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine.


Block: Stringing as shown in the images


Learn how to cut, piece, sandwich, free motion and bind your piece of art.


Dates: Wednesday 11th, 18th & 25th April


Time: 7pm - 10pm


Class length 3 x 3 hrs


Materials required:

Quilting gloves

Fabric quantity depends on the size of your project. ,The quantity of fabric you need, will depend on the size of your project and choice of differing fabrics. For a 1meter x 1meter  quilt you will need at least 1.5 meters of fabric for the patchwork, 0.5m for binding and 1.5m for the backing

Sewing For Beginners


Thursday Mornings 10 - 12-noon

March 1st, 8th, 15th & 22nd


This course is 4 sessions aiming to get you confident with the sewing machine whilst enjoying the new found skills you'll have developed and to make exciting new projects. 


Week 1:  Learn how to thread, wind the bobbin, control the speed, adjust your tension, try different stiches, learn to sew a straight line, use different feet and so much more!


Week 2: Let's sew a simple envelope cushion.  


Week 3 - Sew a tunic, make your own pattern


Week 4 - make/finish the garment. If there's time, use other functions of the

machine eg button hole, blind hem to adapt a garment....


Total materials needed:

3 fat quarters, 3 thread spools, bondaweb, interfacing.

Your own choice and meterage of fabric for the tunic.

This Intermediate Knitting workshop is ideal for anyone who has mastered basic knit and purl stitches and ready to further develope their skills  Our very experienced tutor, Donna Thyer will patiently guide you through the next exciting stages of knitting.


You will learn:

• introductuion to reading patterns

how to shape whilst increasing and decreasing

•knitting in the round and an explanation of the different needles

•how to cable

•correcting mistakes

•buttonholes


Tutor: Donna is an avid and addicted expert in knitting, designing and making both womenswear and menswear. She loves the opportunity to share her passion for everything knitting related and to teach others. Many of you may have seen the knitted Nativity scene Donna knitted and had displayed in our shop window.  


Our workshops are small, the maximum class number is 6 to ensure you get the personal tuition you need to help with your project and get the best out of the workshop.
